Who We Are

The Massachusetts Business Alliance for Education is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that, together with our members, promotes and supports continuous improvement in our schools and innovation that is needed to ensure that EVERY student receives a high-quality education that prepares them for success in college, career, and citizenship.

Our Impact

Over more than 30 years, MBAE has had a substantial impact on state policies and legislation that have greatly improved our public education system.

Envisioning the New Opportunity to Lead
Our evidence-based roadmap for modernizing education to be more responsive to the 21st century has driven statewide strategy over the past 5 years.

Focusing On Equitable and Impactful School Funding
Our analysis and advocacy helped shape the $1.4B Student Opportunity Act’s focus on addressing inequitable funding and closing achievement gaps, and assured that the bill required implementation of best practices.

Raising the Bar on Academics
We successfully advocated to make four years of math the recommended course of study in high school and for the addition of science and technology/engineering MCAS as a graduation requirement, and helped define the applied skills students must acquire for postsecondary success.

Turning Around Chronically Underperforming Schools
MBAE support has enabled interventions in chronically underperforming schools and flexibilities for school leaders working on school turnarounds.

Our History

MBAE was established in 1988 by business leaders concerned that the Commonwealth’s public schools needed substantial reform to produce graduates capable of leading a 21st century democracy and economy. By 1991, MBAE had developed a comprehensive school reform proposal, Every Child a Winner, that became the framework for the Education Reform Act of 1993, a national model for education reform that catapulted the state to top in the nation in student achievement.
