MBAE partnered with Latinos for Education and Education Trust in Massachusetts on this report that examines and highlights systemic educational inequities, primarily affecting Black and Latino students, that result in unequal representation in higher education and careers in high-paying, high-growth industries.

To better understand the lived experiences of Black and Latino high school students, we conducted a series of interviews with students and leaders of color from Massachusetts K-12 school districts, public and private colleges, non-profits, foundations, and youth empowerment organizations.

The paper centers on key themes that emerged from those conversations: asset-based guidance and career counseling; expanded access to rigorous pathway programs and advanced course offerings; relatable, diverse educators and school leaders; meaningful and inclusive work-based learning opportunities; and, community resources.

By expanding access to these crucial elements, Massachusetts can better address persistent equity gaps in higher education and careers that offer upward economic mobility.
