Leadership

MBAE focuses attention that leads to action on the most pressing challenges in education in Massachusetts.   Our leadership dates back to our role as the driving force behind the Education Reform Act of 1993, which resulted in significant gains in student achievement.  More recently, MBAE led the business community’s advocacy for the Act Relative to the Achievement Gap signed into law in January 2010, which raised the charter school cap in targeted districts and expanded management authority for turning around our lowest performing schools.  As a result, 35 schools were identified in Massachusetts for significant support and autonomy to make the changes needed to improve performance.
