The High Cost of Low Educational Performance
A GDP increase of over $40 trillion dollars could be the United States' reward for improved education. A new OECD report links improved performance on the international PISA test to country's GDP growth.

America's Teachers on America's Schools
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Scholastic collaborated to survey 40,000 teachers on how we can address the challenges that facing American schools. The results highlight five main approaches: 1) Establish clearer, tougher academic standards, common across all 50 states, 2) Use multiple measures for student performance, 3) Innovate to reach today's students, 4) Provide supportive leadership to teachers, and 5) Bridge school and home to raise student achievement.

MA Perspective: Based on the responses of Commonwealth teachers surveyed for this report, almost 25% of students are graduating unprepared to succeed in College and only 21% of teachers would "strongly agree" that students enter class prepared for "on-grade-level" work. Despite high national assessment test scores, Massachusetts still has a long way to go to prepare all students for success in college, career, and citizenship.
