Governor's Readiness Project
MBAE Members Appointed

Governor Deval Patrick has appointed a leadership council and thirteen subcommittees to develop a 10-year strategic plan to continuously improve public education and implement his vision for an education system that guarantees every child in Massachusetts access to a world class education.  The Readiness Project's strategic implementation plan is designed "not only to bolster Massachusetts' global competitiveness, it will also strengthen the social fabric of the Commonwealth by reducing costs associated with the lack of a comprehensive education."

Paul Reville has played a leadership role in this effort and was appointed to the Leadership Council.  Other Board members involved are Robert Richardson, of Intel, who is co-chair of the Education and Technology subcommittee.  Maura Banta, MBAE Chair from IBM is co-chair of the MCAS and Additional Assessments subcommittee.  JD Chesloff, recently appointed to the Board of the Department of Early Education and Care is also serving on the Early Education and Care subcommittee; Jim McManus of Slowey/McManus is on the Expanded Teaching and Learning Time group and Linda Noonan, Managing Director was named to the Accountability and Assistance Subcommittee.  MBAE shares the commitment to a quality public education for all children, and looks forward to its work on the Readiness Project.
Preparing Students for College and Career
Massachusetts Joins Partnership for 21st Century Skills
The work that MBAE has been doing in Massachusetts to ensure that all students graduate from high school prepared for success in college and career is closely related to national efforts undertaken by The Partnership for 21st Century Skills.  MBAE's report, Preparing for the Future: Employer Perspectives on Work Readiness Skills identified the same skill deficiencies that the Partnership found in a national survey issued the same month.  This network of states and leading businesses and organizations is working to ensure that every child masters content standards as well as the skills and competencies needed to be engaged and productive citizens and employees in an increasingly competitive global society.

As a leadership state, Massachusetts has committed to building a state-wide agenda, coalition and implementation plan to ensure that all students are ready for life, work and citizenship in the 21st Century.  MBAE is pleased to be part of this effort and to continue its work with organizations sharing our goal of educating a 21st century workforce.
